Resumption of Operations at the Ports of Montreal, Vancouver and Quebec
Further to our previous notice, the situation at the Ports of Montreal, Vancouver and Quebec has progressed towards a resumption of operations. Canada's Labour Minister, the Honorable Steven MacKinnon, requested the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to cease work stoppage at Canada’s largest ports in British Columbia and Quebec.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) issued yesterday an order directing the BCMEA and all its members to resume operations today, November 14, and to continue operations and duties until the Board makes a final determination.
Impact on Port Operations
As CIRB’s order is issued to restart operations, delays are to be expected as work gradually resumes to normal operations.
For the Ports in British Columbia, BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) says it anticipates a high volume of vessels and cargo which means there will be “extensive province-wide labour requirements” across all the port areas.
For the Port of Montreal, we are expecting updates to follow shortly.
Delmar is monitoring the situation and will share additional pertinent information as needed.
